TikTok is the place where you can just be yourself. Have fun, show your real emotions, infect others, and be a star! That’s what the most popular social media of our days is about.
Design and Usability 8/10
The boldest thing about TikTok is legalizing vertical full-screen videos. So no wonder that there is no window for videos: the entire screen is dominated, except for tab buttons in the bottom. It may take some time to figure it out, and even more time to try all the masks, filters and effects it offers.
On the other hand, it processes videos very quickly and posts them in a blink. It’s just what you need when you don’t want to leave your entertainment for long. Up to a minute, and you have a new video to tell the world how you party.
Key Functions 10/10
TikTok is for short funny or cute videos where you share the most beautiful and emotional moments of your everyday life. No need to filter shots as you do on Instagram. No longreads belonging on Facebook. No Twitter-like verbal punches. Just picture yourself dancing, singing, jumping, or just walking the street. If you’re true, you’ll be appreciated.
Add some music. The library on TikTok is enormous, and the service is responsible for its legal usage, not you.
When your video is ready, you can share it on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media. But it will remain truly tiktokish, so it makes sense to make another one to boost your popularity or see others share the brightest bits of their days.
You can apply various effects and filters, add texts directly to video, edit them in the built-in linear editor, add captions and hashtags to be found. Follow your friends, celebrities, and just those whose videos you like. Share more to be followed back.
Security & App Purchases 6/10
It’s all very, very controversial. So far there have been two major scandals I heard of: in one, it collected information about users under 13 yo; in another, it was caught collecting personal data so heavily that it was banned in the U.S. Army. There were more in other countries, but still, TikTok can’t be fully trusted with your sensitive data.
The app is basically free, but you can buy coins to buy virtual gifts for other users. These coins are quite affordable if you don’t fire them out to anyone. Gifts may be useful to make some people pay attention to your account and your personality. On the other hand, if you earn Diamonds on your popularity, you can monetize them and earn money.
TikTok is about life sketches to popular music, up to a minute long, bright, and natural. Mostly populated by the young, it demonstrates with its success that it’s the true emotion we have been deprived for long, and now sharing it is in demand. Don’t be afraid to be true, they say. Download TikTok app. Sing. Dance. Enjoy. Show off.
